The Medicine of the Seed: A Cacao Ceremony

Like a seed buried deep in the soil, we too can lose sight of who we are. In the stillness of the earth’s embrace, the seed might wonder: Why am I here? What is this darkness? I feel fear, anger, loss. Yet, it is in this fertile darkness that the seed begins its sacred journey.

A single drop of water—offered here as a cup of cacao—awakens the seed’s memory of its essence. It remembers its purpose: to grow, to transform, to become the tree, the flower, the life that was always within. Creation and dissolution, expansion and renewal—the seed's path mirrors our own.

The Cacao Ceremony invites us to journey inward, awakening the seed within our hearts. Through this sacred medicine, we access the wisdom to flourish, transforming fears and limitations into opportunities for growth. Cacao acts as the drop of water that softens the protective shell around the heart, allowing compassion and tenderness to emerge.

A Journey Through Four Doors

The ceremony unfolds through four sacred doors, each aligned with one of the four directions and the four elements, following the Maya K’iché medicine wheel—a tradition in which the facilitators are initiated. Each door represents a stage in the seed’s sacred journey toward its fullest expression.

This deeply embodied process integrates body awareness, mindfulness, meditation, visualization, and compassionate inquiry into our emotions and suffering. Each door offers a chance to move beyond old stories, connect with the essence of who we are, and create space for renewal.

Facilitated by Andrés Jiménez and Gisela Hincapié, both initiated in the ancestral Maya K’iché tradition, with extensive training in modern ceremonial cacao work through the guidance of Keith Wilson. They are also trained in other healing modalities such as mindfulness meditation, breathwork, and voice healing. They have been sharing Cacao Ceremonies for the past 9 years.

In addition, Andrés currently serves as General Manager at Keith’s Cacao Guatemala.
